Curatorial notes
Optima Contemporary facilitated the loan of Vandalised Spot Painting (Banlofen) (2024), a rare collaborative work by Banksy and Damien Hirst, to Moco Museum London.
The artwork brings together two distinctive and highly recognisable artistic languages. Hirst’s precisely ordered Spot Painting provides the foundation, while Banksy’s intervention disrupts its structure and transforms the work into a provocative dialogue between control and rebellion, authorship and appropriation.
The presentation at Moco Museum London placed the work within an international programme dedicated to modern, contemporary and street art. Located at Marble Arch, Moco London presents influential artists in an accessible museum setting, encouraging audiences to engage with the ideas and cultural questions shaping contemporary life.
Through this institutional loan, Optima Contemporary helped make an exceptional collaboration available to a broad public audience.
