Sale Ends (V.2) is a powerful reissue of one of Banksy’s most iconic and socially critical artworks. Originally released in 2006, this updated version was published in 2017 in a new, larger edition of 500 signed prints through Banksy's former print outlet, Pictures on Walls (POW).
The image remains one of Banksy’s most striking critiques of consumer culture: a group of mournful, robed figures kneeling in prayer around a bold red sign that reads “SALE ENDS TODAY.” The figures appear in worship, evoking the composition of classical religious paintings, particularly Renaissance lamentation scenes. The result is a deeply ironic and biting commentary on how modern society treats consumerism and retail marketing with the reverence once reserved for religion.
By placing the "SALE" banner at the centre of this spiritual tableau, Banksy elevates the banality of shopping culture to something sacred — exposing, with sharp wit, the absurdity and emptiness of material obsession.
