Nola

Nola

Released in 2008, Nola is widely regarded as one of Banksy’s most poignant and visually striking print editions. The image depicts a young girl standing beneath an umbrella during heavy rainfall.

The work originates from a mural created in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and reflects Banksy’s response to the devastation and the perceived failings of those responsible for protecting affected communities.

About The Series

Unlike many of Banksy’s overtly satirical works, Nola communicates its message through subtle symbolism. The image captures a moment of innocence disrupted by forces beyond the girl’s control, encouraging viewers to consider broader themes of authority, protection and resilience.

The original mural quickly became one of the most celebrated works from Banksy’s New Orleans project. When released as a print edition through Pictures On Walls, it immediately attracted attention from collectors drawn to both its visual simplicity and emotional depth.

Today, Nola remains one of the artist’s most admired editions, demonstrating Banksy’s ability to combine political commentary with universal human themes.

Editions And Variations

Nola was released in 2008 in a limited edition of 289 signed works - this featured white raindrops.

Later, the introduction of the grey rain, and then moving into the more colourful editions ranging from edition sizes of 63 to 32, depending on the print,

These AP editions include Orange Rain, Green Rain and Blue Rain variants, each considerably rarer than the standard release. Their scarcity has made them particularly desirable among established Banksy collectors seeking examples beyond the main edition.

As with all Banksy works, provenance, condition and Pest Control authentication play an important role in determining collectability.

Collecting Nola

Nola occupies a unique position within Banksy’s print catalogue. It lacks the overt humour of works such as Morons or Flying Copper, instead offering a more reflective and emotional narrative.

Collectors are often drawn to the work’s connection to Hurricane Katrina, as well as the strength of its visual metaphor. The rarity of the edition, particularly the Artist’s Proof colourways, has helped maintain strong collector interest since its release.

Many collectors consider Nola to be one of Banksy’s most sophisticated and mature print releases.

Notable Auction Results

Nola has consistently performed strongly at auction, particularly the rare Artist’s Proof colourways. The Orange Rain variant has achieved some of the highest results within the series, demonstrating the premium collectors place on the rarest versions of the work.
